Ray ID
Hello all,
Wondering if you could ID this ray for me. Approx. 5" disk. Starting to darken up just a bit since the pic. Also starting to show some white spots that can be seen some in the pic. Only one row of spines on the tail. Suppose to be from Brazil. Thanks.

Re: Ray ID
Hard to say with these stingrays, especially at younger age. What was it imported as?

Re: Ray ID
Your possibly right Anders but Constellata cannot be ruled out in this case. The pic in the data base was in fact my Stingray, had her for a few years before selling it to the boss whom Bruce Jones used to work for...wish I still had her..damn!
Constellata originates from the Tapajos in Brasil to my knowledge and what has been rightly pointed out is the Markings are very similar to the pic on data base, the spiracle looks similar also not to mention the big eyes in the first pic. Only Constellata has larger eyes and a taller mantle than Hystrix (Cururu).
Will be interesting to see how this ray develops, the huge denticles (visible on adults) are not present on juveniles so lets wait and see, they also have multiple tail spines as adults similar to black rays, these are present in even juvie blackies so because of this it is most likely what you said but again lets wait and see, these rays change appearance so much as they grow they could develop more thorns on the tail as seen in many adult Motoro.
Interesting!
