This weekend I took a "small" trip to germany to buy some new rays.

The seller had a very impressive 6000 liter tank along wih many other big tanks.

We sat down and talked about rays, tank and so on. Then he pulled out a little envelop wich were filled with pictures, pictures from when his main tank cracked in the back.

Its was an amazing story. So I asked him if he would send me some pictures to show here. And so he did:

Holy shit.

How thick was the glass at the back? It seems thick enough. Any idea why it cracked?

Normally insurance will cover the loses. INCLUDING the fish. So if this happens to anyone of us. Take as many images as possible and keep the fish in the fridge. Do not throw them away !!

but I hope I'll never end op with a leo in my fridge

OMFG it makes me sad to see all those fish death !!! I'm sure he was not at home when it happend ? i think even the neighbours have heart that BANG !

Well he was home, sleeping, but no one heard anything.

The reason why it broke is, that the only thing holding the tank together (except for the silicone) were two glass leavers. You can see them in the 1st and 2end picture.

And that simply isent enough. So now he has added 4 big steal leavers to make sure it never happens again.

Its safe to say, that the builder was a bit of a butt head.

To see the fish lying on the ground makes me sad

What was the lenght of the aquarium and who was the builder?


@Stefan: maybe the strip snapped because it had to hold to much pressure by itself?

I am not sure how thick the glass is. But I can ask.

It cracked not long after it was made. And now, after he has added the steel levers, it has been running without problems for more than 3 years.

I think the tank is 5-6 meters long. But I will ask.

Dont know the builder.
