Wow what a aqua. Good luck with this project. Can you maybe show some pics about how you keep your rays at the moment (the double storey house )?

Re: I started a Crazy project - Big ray habitat
I would do the mechanical filtration before the biological filtration process starts, so no solid waste and feces enter the biological part of the filtration system. Eigther with settling tanks or with large cleanable "mats". The last option however, may not be handy for such a large system.
Yes, it would be cool if you could post some pics of the rays too

How to post pictures is shown here: viewtopic.php?f=34&t=527. If it gives any troubles, just let me know
As far as I know Crossflow blocks are lightweight plastic filter medium. But Haiko has experience with this medium and can probably explain best, maybe he also has some pictures

Re: I started a Crazy project - Big ray habitat
Crossflow blocks are indeed plastic filter media blocks as shown on the picture. They are very good cuz they provide maximal contact time between water and air and do not clog very easily. You must make sure the water is dropped at the right place tho with some sort of trickling plate. If done correctly, you can remove enormous amounts of waste. As Lode said, you must make sure you remove bigger particles from the water before it goes through the tower by creating settling tanks. These can also be filled with the same crossflowblocks.

Re: I started a Crazy project - Big ray habitat
They dont come in very big pieces but you can easily tower them up. I think the size is up to 2.3 meter wide by 0.3 x 0.3 meter.
