My old tank was also broken because the builder had placed 1 strip.. Does the insurence pay him the damage ?

Re: When a 6000 liter tank cracks
Damn... that totally sucks!
I asked our insurance if they would cover (self made) tanks, and they do! They do not only pay for damaged furniture, but also the tank and the fish. It even covers accidents e.g. when I am using the vacuum cleaner and accidentily bump into a tank.

In the Netherlands all insurence company's cover our tanks and some even the fish, but i don't know if they cover it in Germany.
When my old tank was broken they have paid me everything.. Fish, Tank, furniture, And if i want to they could help me with renting a q-tank for the fish.

Re: When a 6000 liter tank cracks
I did them all in the freezer and showed the rays to the insurence company.. They take pics from them and after that the insurence company is asking how much you paid for them and where.. I bought them from a breeder and the insurence company did a research about the prices. They had contacted a few breeders and they all told the same prices.
If you bought rays in a store you can show the company a ticket with the prices.

Re: When a 6000 liter tank cracks
It is a very sad sight.
I had a 900l tank burst, nothing like the size of the one in this thread and the effects were devastating. It was when I was just starting out and was cycling the tank so no fish fortunately. The glass was sent from one side of the room to the other. I had just left the room to get a bucket as I saw the leak at the base and as I left there was an almighty noise and the front piece shot cross the room, followed by a tidal wave of water.
NOT an experience I would like to repeat. The insurance did cover the costs of the tank substrate etc and the cost for a new floor. The problem was my fault I think not enough polystrene under the tank. I learnt the hard way and now only have acrylic tanks.
My advice would be take lots of photos if you are unfortunate enough to have this happen to you and keep any receipts for fish, tanks etc.
