True mantilla?

True mantilla?
Daniel Wehrli has made a new chapter on his homepage called "Potamotrygon orbignyi sp. mantilla ray".
He claims they were caught in Marajo, just as MichaelH´s rays (same fish?).
Could this be an actual species worthy of the name mantilla?
I have added pics from daniel and michael.
Daniel:
Michael´s fish, also from Marajo:

Re: True mantilla?
The name "Mantilla" originates from Richard Ross, who named P19, 20, 21 after a distributer from Florida, named Jose Mantilla. What's the relationshop with Potamotrygon orbignyi, P11?
Fantastic stingray by the way!

Re: True mantilla?
Here is some pictures I took last week in a friend's aquarium. The mantillas have the same origin than D. Wehrli's ones (same German wholesaler).

Re: True mantilla?
I think Mantilla is just a natural hybrid.

Re: True mantilla?
No doubt that most are. But there may just be a true species with the mantilla look.
Kind regards Anders.

Re: True mantilla?
I think they are Orbignyi variants, and 'mantilla" is a hobby name. Orbs are possibly the most varied species in their markings. I am friendly with the uni professor in Brazil who specifically studies orbignyi.

Re: True mantilla?
It would be interesting to see what the underside mouth area looks like. P orbignyi is pretty distinctive.
